Gear Up for Camping: Northern California Getaway

May 16th, 2010 · No Comments · Camping In California

Going camping is indeed very exciting especially if you are geared up for the Northern part of California. Summer months in this part of the country gets heavily booked, especially the Sequoia National Park and the Redwood National Park. Even the beaches like Fort Braggs Beach and Half Moon Bay are filled with campers.

Why not? The coastal route going to the northern part offers a majestic view of the ocean and skyscraper-high California redwoods. Gorgeous mountain ranges, excellent resorts and restaurants, and coastal hideaways abound in this part of California, so you literally have plenty of choices as to what type of summer outing you would like to do.

If you are up for camping, before you take that road trip with your friends or family, make sure you have all the camping gear you need. It sure kills the excitement when you arrive on your campsite to find out that you forgot something in your house.

Here is a checklist of the camping gear that you must bring:

  • Camping tents – Unless you prefer to bivouac on the north side of the town, you need camping tents to protect you from bugs, mosquitoes, and other elements of nature. Camping tents also provide storage for your other camping gear, give you a sense of privacy, and make your sleeping more comfortable and secure.

Size and weight should be considered when deciding what type of camping tents you would need. Think how many people would be included in your group and how long would you be on camping. If you are camping for days, get a bigger tent to give more space. Bring a lightweight tent if you are backpacking.

  • Sleeping bags – Even though you decide to rough it out, having a sleeping bag will allow you to sleep comfortably at night. You may want to select something with temperature rating so you can manage the cold temperature.
  • Food – It does not just include chips; bring foods that will satisfy your stomach’s cravings. Camping food can range anywhere from oatmeal to hotdogs and veggies, to baked potato and one-pot meals. Try searching for online recipes that need only one pot or pan so you do not need to bring the whole kitchen on your trip. Grilled foods are also common during camping.
  • Pots, pans, or other cookware – Where will you cook your food? If it is just a one-night camp, you can cook on an open fire. If you do not want this meticulous type of cooking, bring portable propane stove. Include skillets, pots, pans, plates, and other utensils.
  • Miscellaneous – First aid kit, shower items, emergency lights, garbage bag, extra batteries, and much more. As what most seasoned campers advise, it is better to over pack than under pack. As you become familiar with camping, you will be more familiar with the things that you will need to bring.

Many activity options are available in Northern California and camping is one of the best things that you can opt to do. Make sure you bring your camping gear when you hit the road!
